I’m all about executing, across all fronts.
There’s more to product management than just the tech. There’s also marketing, business development & partnerships, customer service, data, risk, legal, and possibly ground logistics. I’ve navigated each of those. And I know that Plan A might not work out—so I’m always prepared with a Plan B and C.
EXAMPLE
Zoona Sunga National Product Launch
In 2017, at Zoona, I had piloted the Sunga savings product in a couple towns in Zambia. We made some product tweaks and were now ready to roll it out to the whole country. This was no small feat. I had to:
Get regulatory clearance from the Bank of Zambia
Coordinate radio blasts, social media, national media, and notifications to existing customer
Update customer service representatives on product changes
Ensure transactional data would be tracked live, and that the risk team was alert, to close any fraud loopholes.
Re-design, print, and distribute flyers and posters to our 1000+ Zoona locations across Zambia.
Organize training sessions with 15 staff training 1200+ agents/tellers in nearly 50 different towns.
In the end, Sunga launched on schedule, without a hitch, and grew a customer base quickly. The Bank of Zambia awarded Zoona its annual Innovation Award as a result.
